It is oil based but it don't act like one. It's alot like the leather dye except you get a bit more time to work it, but you still have to be fast because it dries super fast and it is a stain and not a dye. You can put a finish on top of it 15 minutes after wiping according to the data sheet, but I always give it at least 30. If it were me and it's shellac, like others I'd strip it with DA since it's cheap and extremely less toxic than other strippers. Then go with the leather dye and a pure tung oil or boiled linseed oil finish. If you want it traditional go back with shellac.</p></blockquote><p></p>
