Sales taxes administered by the states. Defense funding through property taxes, tariffs. Perhaps the shortfalls might get us back to Constitutionally sound levels of spending on many fronts.

You should run for office, might even get a few votes, including mine. Probably better than flinging poo from the cheap seats constantly.

I surrender. You have the right attitude. So I guess you don’t drive on highways, rely on the fire dept when you have a fire, don’t use any of the technology developed by those kids who were in school a few years ago, and so on.

Your desire to see children succeed is admirable, but I'm not sure these comparisons are your strongest argument. A co-worker tried to use the same basic argument with me about socialized medicine (don't we pay taxes to drive on highways; why shouldn't we pay taxes for everyone's healthcare?)

Common sense would indicate that some things can reasonably be considered an individual responsibility/expense, and not others. Should we all pitch in to build an interstate highway that we can all drive on? Sure, many of us benefit directly from it and the magnitude of the expense is such that none of us can pay for it ourselves. Should we all pitch in to pay for my doctor's visit? Or my kid's lunch? No, only my family directly benefits from those things. They are my INDIVIDUAL responsibilities, and with a little budgeting they are manageable expenses for one individual/family.

We can indirectly claim that almost anything is for the public good, and if we follow that line of reasoning we are quickly all the way down the socialist rabbit hole.

That's why we vote. Be involved, speak up, get to know your representatives, volunteer in the schools, many opportunities.

You are correct, things certainly can get out of control. So work to insure that they don't. With a little effort, you will learn that most of the elected reps, especially local ones, are normal folks, trying to improve things.

Individual responsibility is absolutely required, but like many other "requirements" not everyone takes those responsibilities seriously. Many spend family money on guns, boats, booze, tattoos, etc. instead of what we consider as "our responsibility". Some folks are truly disadvantaged and do not have the funds.

We live in the best nation in the world, and part of what makes us great is our desire to see everyone's true needs met. I think we all agree that there is a need to help others, but sometimes those efforts can get out of hand. Again, that's why we vote and stay involved in what is happening in society.

My wife was a school teacher for 9 years, before quitting to stay home and raise our kids and home school them. We would have gone broke if we tried to help every kid that needed help. Lots of heart breaking stories for sure. She taught in the worst school in TPS for a year her second year. Sadly a lot of the schools are not doing any teaching. They are simply day care centers. She was never not a single time allowed to hold a child back. Even when the parents that didn't speak English wanted it.

She taught in two schools that gave the kids breakfast and lunch and routinely sent food home with kids. As with anything the 3 or 4 parents that came for teachers meetings were not the ones she needed to talk to. It was the ones that were stoned or letting their 6 year old listen to gangster rap and talk about wanting to be a pimp when he grew up. My wife has said when our kids go to college she will not return to teaching. The public system has decayed so much in the 20 years since she started teaching.

While I have no issue with charity and believe those of us that a blessed beyond what we deserve should help others. I do often wonder, when we feed these kids, clothe them and provide them all their essential needs. (Most of their parents take advantage of every freebie they can get their hands on) so they can have things I have to work and save for. These kids just learn how to play the system and end up continuing the cycle. So when we say "Do it for the kids" in reality we are simply creating the next generation of welfare and system abusers.

The TPS text this morning said the reason to go virtual was 74% of TPS kids were non-white and they have a higher chance of getting sick?
Then they turned around and said 83% are underprivileged and on free lunch.
Well if that's the case, then they SHOULD be in school so they will get free breakfast and lunch.

If you put up a deer feeder, deer will come. If the area is infested with pigs, they will come and eat the corn you purchased for the deer. If the area is not infested with pigs, soon it will be, and pigs from all over will be eating the corn you paid for.

I like some wild pig on the smoker, but I'm no fan of having pigs replace deer. Take the free corn away, and the deer remain, the pigs go away.

Like it or not, we all rely on each other to have the great nation and society that we have.

Yes, we do have a great nation, but something needs to be done about those who do nothing to contribute to it. All they do is work the system with their hands out wanting more and contributing nothing.

They'll still be around.....waiting somewhere nearby feeding on what they can no matter the source.
