😲 “U of C researchers found that those who took part in READI Chicago were two-thirds less likely to be arrested for a shooting and nearly 20% less likely to be shot or killed themselves than other at-risk residents of the South and West sides.

Pretty amazing that in a modern, first-world country, there would need to be a program to try and council and educate people in why it's bad to shoot at each other.

LOL - "most endangered populations". They going on a list with the California Condor?

So what I’m reading is “80% of people who took this class were still shot or killed.”

You’d think, but there are folks on this board that talk openly about vigilantism and doling out cruel and unusual punishments, if only they were given the liberty to do so.
Talk is just ..talk. People in Chicago are killing their neighbors< men women and children, in numbers that are astounding when you look at the statistics.

Yes, it’s terrible. I’m just glad to see a program that aims to help those at risk people and not just more cries for gun control. Instilling positive values at an early age is important for developing a moral society that doesn’t solve its problems through violence in my opinion.

The “control group” was comprised 100% of men turned away by the program. This is not “the gold standard” for a control group. This is the gold standard for controlling your outcome. the study should include an equal number of men randomly chosen from the general population. Using those denied access to the program as a guide group May be considered beneficial however we have been given no information as to why the people were turned away. Predictably those who received direct interaction and were chosen personally by the researchers showed better results. This is an internal bias within the study. Could programs like this help? Possibly. Are programs like this greatly beneficial? We are not given a research program with proper data with which to make a determination.
