Does anyone else remember having to sign for pistol ammo - even 22LR ammo if it was going to be used in a handgun?

Yes, for any ammo in the mid1960's. Type of firearm was to be used in was not a qualifier.
Dad had a store and we had to keep a ledger of all the ammo we sold and the purchaser had to sign. Do not remember if there was an age restriction.
Do not know what dad did with the ledgers after we filled them.

By the time I was about 12 (early 70s) years old I was buying .22s at OTASCO. One day I attempted to buy some at the new local Walmart. Walmart wouldn't sell it to me so I got my mom to buy it. They pulled out a ledger for her to fill out and she told them fly a kite, or something like that. May have been a Walmart thing because I just went back to getting them at OTASCO.
