Been gone for 6 days now to Lake Tanneycomo in Mo.(Branson Veterans weekend) for a trout fishing, head re-arranging sabbatical. No internet, no cell phone, just the wife and I for fishing, getting re-acquainted, veterans weekend, & Unit reunions, Last I heard, about 30,000 vets showed up. Last year when we went, it was the Korean war Vets that got special acknowledgement, and this year it was the year of the Vietnam Vets.(Trust me, nobody like the movie typified psycho holly wood dumb ***** showed up) Weather was perfect with the days in the 70's, nights in the 50's. Its good to get away from the daily routine, and mundane chores to really enjoy the spouse, and life in general. Its really impressive to see a whole community come together to honor those that have served. I know it sounds like a marketing ploy, to attract a certain group, and it does, but they put their money with there mouth is. We go there to trout fish in the spring as well, and can guarantee that the 10-30% discounts on food, merchandise really happens. My favorite(not so favorite) is getting some of the Few WWII vets to open up and talk. Once they realize they are talking to another "brother" they open up and it flows from their heart....Stories they have kept secret for 68 years or so came out. Its gut wrenching to hear how they have hidden all of this from their families, and others that just wouldn't understand what has to happen in combat. I guess my final word would be what I saw on a tailgate of an Okla Vietnam vet. He has a small sign that said: We started as Soldiers, and ended as Brothers.......
