And this is why there will never be anything but a two party system in this country.

RICHMOND, Va. - The state Board of Elections has rejected the Republican Party's bid to keep the name of Constitution Party presidential candidate Virgil Goode off the Virginia ballot.

The board acted Tuesday after the GOP raised questions about some signatures Goode tendered to qualify for the ballot.

The former congressman is seeking a spot on the ballot as the nominee of the conservative Constitution Party. He lost his congressional seat to one-term Democrat Tom Perriello in 2008.

Goode's presence on the ballot poses a risk to the GOP because he could drain some conservative support away from Republican nominee Mitt Romney.

That's of particular concern in Virginia, a swing state where polls show Romney and President Barack Obama virtually deadlocked.

The reason we have a two party system is because none of the other candidates can offer the "dependency class" anything. We have way too many people who want the government to do the thinking, planning, regulating, feeding, etc. instead of relying on self determination.

If Virgil Goode bleeds enough votes away from Romney that Obama wins the critical battleground state of Virginia then it will be on the heads of the "constitutionalists" who enabled it.

Where did that come from? Regardless, my retort would be that the GOP could've avoided that possibility if they'd stuck to their party principles and nominated a better candidate!

The same thing was done here in OK to keep Gary Johnson off the ballot. Neither the GOP nor the DP want fair ballot access. It would seriously hamper their monopoly! :(

You overlooked my sarcasm font. :wink2:

While I agree with your extended remarks I would remind folks that this is Virginia we are talking about.
Virginia, where the rules are so arcane and restrictive that in the primary only Ron Paul and Mitt Romney were able to qualify for the Republican primary ballot.

Maybe the GOP would back off and give the libertarians some leeway if the Democrats would, at the same time, back off and give the green party some leeway or the OWS crowd if they even had a political movement.

Who am I kidding? Nah, Nope, not going to happen.

Guys asking the Dems or Republicans to back off is like asking Unions to back off and let non-union works have some of the jobs. Not going to happen. The third parties are going to have to gain enough support to force the issue.

with every disenchanted Dem or Republican, the Independent voter rolls grow. Party affilliation means less and less to the younger generation. It wont be long and only older people that refuse to give up party affilliation will be a minority.

True but getting the younger people organized enough and willing to do the work necessary is a whole different matter. Heck RP probably had enough supporters to make a serious third party run if only he had more then lip service from most of his supporters.
