I think a lot of them are just bedding the whole morning, then getting up at 10, 11, noon to take a piss or feed. Last weekend saw 8 deer in three groups on scouting day (Friday), but NONE on Sat (all day) or Sun morning - except the ones killed by hunters at the check station. Oh yeah, I saw several dozen turkeys while hunting, and could have shot two of them - dangit, I wish they'd extend fall turkey gun to include the first two days of deer season.
Just twice? Ha, ha, that's funny. I've hunted probably dozen & and half mornings since early October - nothing. It's getting ridiculous how bad my luck is this year. I've only seen 2 deer while hunting, and both of them were being pushed / jumped while walking in/out - no "walking" deer have come near at all. Seen quite a few of them on scouting days / while driving. Controlling the hell out of my scent and everything - it's weird. It's unbelievable how much sign I find too. Scrapes, rubs, poop, tracks, most of it pretty fresh, within a week or two. Seems they're way more nocturnal this year than in the past, possibly. I've had a couple walk near me after dark and before light. I think my problem is that I'm not staying out til midday - I've only done that once; stayed out til 2:00 pm. Then two on Sunday noon driving home, 50 yards from the highway. Oh yeah, I saw several dozen turkeys while hunting, and could have shot two of them - dangit, I wish they'd extend fall turkey gun to include the first two days of deer season.
