He was almost legendary for beating "arrestees" particularly if they looked like a hippie to him. This was back in the 60's & 70's.  Same time frame, Tulsa Co was infamous for "elevator rides" for rambunctious folks lol! And my all time favorite lawman, Rogers County Sheriff Amos Ward. I still recall Amos watching a bunch of us drunk cowboys fist fighting in the pond at Lipe's Rodeo, he called out to us "Any of you turdheads let somebody drown in that cow piss, I'm gonna shoot the damn bunch of ya!" we all stopped and hollered back "Yes sir Mr. Ward". Now that was a great man! Laid back, slow talking, fair to everybody and just like Santa.....he KNEW if you'd been bad or were telling a fib.</p></blockquote><p></p>
