I have to say one of the coolest feelings I ever had was sitting in the archives in Austin, TX and looking at the names of my relatives from the Mexican census of 1829. The dad was pretty old but he had a 16yo son. One of them went on to fight in the Army of the Republic of Texas and went on to be in some Navy for the Mexican-American war. IIRC Texas gave him 7500 acres for his years of service. I found a pension request many years later where he said he had under 200 acres and a small count of cattle. His son fought in the Texas Brigade for the CSA and judging by what I've read a whole lot of them got killed. Thankfully, he made it. Another relative was killed at the Battle of Middle Boggy Depot. About half of the Seminole Battalion of Mounted Rifles were killed there. What about your family?
