[QUOTE="radarmonkey, post: 1351828, member: 8195"] LC great thread.... Last year I started a little research on my mom's side of the family. Her first relative (James P.) landed in Virginia way back in 1700. He was English, but had taken a French bride and traveled here with her family. His grandson, named John P. fought with a very young Lt. Col. Geo. Washington in the French and Indian War. Later, John P. and his son, another James, fought together at the battle of Cowpens for Gen. Morgan. during the Revolutionary War. It really gave me a huge sense of pride to know this. I need to start researching again and see what else I can find. I know some more folks on my Mom's side fought in the Civil War and were given land in Alabama (I think) for payment. They all later moved to Texas though. One of them, Silas, became a preacher. I have photos of some of their headstones from a cemetery in Moody, Tx. if I can find them I will post them later.
