I couldn't keep 3 months supply for everyone in my house...not in my little urban patch. I keep 5 gallons on hand for every person, keep two Water Bobs in the house to deploy if there is enough warning (which will give me 200 more gallons), and have scoped out water resources within a reasonable distance from the house...I've got a wheelbarrow, water cans, a Berkey, coffee filters, bleach, smaller backpacking filters, and kids that need a workout.

also available at Atwoods, yard sales, antique shops. Ive got mine piped so that when i lose power, i shut one valve, open another and pump.

A friend near Morris just did his self drilled well, hit good water around 15ft. Its very doable.

Do manual hand pumps have a depth limit?

Mine is a Simple Pump, it takes 16-17 pumps for 1 gallon. It is great exercise. I recommend the 3' handle. You can also get a 12v attachment that you can run off of battery or solar. Our well depth is around 150' .
