My 2-cents.... I've pumped water many times.. people who do usually keep a little back in case they have to prime the pump. As for the generator, I have a 20KW one that runs off of natural gas or propane with the flick of a switch. They are the kind to have. I'm going to be getting a good ceramic filter and blue barrel. And I have a 100 gallon stock tank I keep filled so the dogs will have water. But as long as I have natural gas or propane, I can boil ditch / river water to purify it if I have too. Just a reminder, in a SHTF situation where water is short... turn off the water going into your toilet... drain the water, then line the bowl with a kitchen trash bag.. change when required. Don't mix liquid urine with the solids if you can... as that starts the fermentation process. If your city / town's utility services such as water production & trash collection are down for days or weeks... you will have a much less stinking mess to deal with. That is also where a good pellet rifle will come in handy... as the varmints will come out scavenging on your trash. And you can use the pellet rifle to shoot doves and squirrels in the yard for food if you have too. And don't forget that if the water is off and there is no pressure.. you still have 30-50 gallons of water in your electric / gas water heater. Just hook a water hose to the drain valve.. just be darn sure to turn off the heatig unit.
