Saw this in the paper the other day and thought it most fitting today ___

"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance."
- Cicero - 55 BC

... Evidently nothing ...

- Well maybe, I've learn that the more things change, the more the stay the same.

The actual quote is: "The arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed, lest Rome fall."

"The budget should be balanced, the treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. The mobs should be forced to work and not depend on government for subsistence. "

is from page 483, A Pillar of Iron (1965), Taylor Caldwell's fictionalized account of the life of the senator.
