Well i have this type 99 in the garage and I want to do something with. It has a cut up stock, lots of surface rust, mum is still intact and looks unmolested, bolt locks up tight. I will try and nd post some pictures of it tomorrow

A)Should I change the caliber and make it a fun range gun ?
B)find a new stock and clean it up?
C) trade or sell it and by and k31, carcano, or Enfield
D) ?

If it was a WW2 GI bring back it may have the "duffle cut", stock cut back to fit in a soldiers duffle bag. Some would say leave as is due to the history and other would say get a replacement stock.

Odd that the safety in the last pic doesn't have any knurl.

I have one that has been sporterized to a .300 Savage. Bolt handle turned down, receiver drilled for scope, and restocked. Great shooter, took several deer with it.

The safety is knurled on mine, and others I've seen have the same.

If I've read right the knurled are the earlier type 99's. I think mine is what they call the last ditch 99.

Yours must have escaped the desecration of the mum or something.

If it is a later year in the war, I'd be scared to fire it.

The Japanese ran out of lead, and some of the later models shot wood bullets at the end of the war.

I'd suggest doing a lot of research before firing this gun.

I think it's a 1943 if my memory serves me right
