I've always lumped Metallica into the general musical category of "lame hair bands" like Nelson, Winger and Poison. A few people whose musical judgment is usually reliable have told me no, Metallica actually has talent. Accordingly, instead of automatically switching to another station when a Metallica song comes on, I've tried to give them a fresh listen on several different occasions. My hope was that I'd be able to pick out what separates them from, say, Cinderella or Twisted Sister. Unfortunately, I can't hear it. They just sound like any other dated, corny and over-produced band taking itself way to seriously. Sorry Metallica fans, I guess this hater is just gonna hate.
