Why doesn't the DHS just buy back the Assault Weapons that Obama/Holder/ATF sold/trafficked into Mexico?

Oddly enough DHS did exactly the right thing for exactly the right reasons in this RFP (Request for Proposal) they sent out to industry.

Some mid-level DHS functionary made a realistic assessment that a carbine chambered for 5.56 is a good general purpose self-defense weapon for DHS personnel (IIRC this was for US-Mexico border area personnel). Of course, being good for DHS personnel for their personal defense doesn't mean that it would be good for the rest of us - even in the limited non-Select Fire versions most of us can buy (did you notice the RFP was for Select Fire weapons?)

Now he will probably be punished, or the RFP will be withdrawn, because it violates the new Orthodoxy that carbines, err....I mean "ASSAULT WEAPONS" are inherently evil weapon unlike the presumably good, friendly double-barreled shotgun the VP endorsed.
