JDAM's from aircraft now have controlled explosion capability's to take out a squad on the ground or a room in a building.  A current destroyer naval ship can deploy dozens of smart missiles that will hit the target every time vs a barrage of guns that can be very accurate but not nearly as accurate as the missiles.  Ground forces are being supplied with optics on their weapons and shoot around the corner technology without the soldier presenting themself as a target is in process. Smart bullets fired from ground troops weapons that always find their targets,  as well as miniature drones that can look over the next obstacle before assaulting it are currently in limited use. Some of this is advantageous in the current warfare, but would have limited use in dense jungle warfare. It's pretty much impossible to determine where the next conflict may occur, and the military has to roll with what they have until new weapons designed for that environment can be developed.</blockquote>
