It is pretty simple, if you will pass a NICS check and can purchase a gun, you can get your CCL in Oklahoma.

fairly accurate, but misdemeanor drug related offenses ever will preclude you from the ccw but not purchase. Trust me, the expungement was not cheap. lol

true statement is that if you can purchase a handgun in this state with nics check, you have NO drug related in anyway offense, or no domestic abuse. And you are Very accurate on your app, then it should be a cinch. I am one who had a colorful youth, but no problems in many years. But fun then costs money now. I was fortunate the charge is/was 12 years old and just paid the best atty around and we did a full expungement. I picked up my permit today!!

Back when I was young and dumb I got a few San Francisco city tickets once in 92' during a traffic stop while driving our bands touring bus after a gig. I wasnt drunk but had been drinking a little at the bar we had just played at. Being a bunch of long haired rock musicians we knew what was coming next. They searched our bus. They ended up finding a big knife I kept in my guitar case(I actually forgot even why it was in there...),I had a little bit of pot in my pocket and I offered it up,it wasnt found, but I thought honesty may be the best policy. I ended up being the only one arrested-and that was only getting a few city tickets-one for speeding, one for public intoxication, one for possession of marijuana, and one for a concealed weapon. I paid the tickets in cash the next morning at the jail after their required 6 hours spent in the drunk tank sobering up.I paid them just like traffic tickets- no court, etc. I did get a notice later that my license had been suspended because in Cali they automatically suspend your license if you have a moving violation with a drinking or drug offense. So I went to defensive driving school and then paid to get my license reinstated. Thats been it for my criminal experience. One night in the county in 40 years.

Years later I wanted to get a CC permit because I carried large amounts of cash to the bank from our tattoo shop. I wasnt able to get my California CC permit. Its a 'shall issue' state and you get them from your countys sheriff. I just figured he turns down almost everybody. So I just carried illegal.

After we moved to Iowa in 00' I had no problem getting my casino employees background clearance check to be cleared to work at the casinos bar as their entertainment booking manager. And I was grilled pretty heavy by the investigator about the incident in Cali. It didnt preclude me from getting my casino clearance though. And its tough to pass the background check to get on at a casino in management.

I went to a gun shop one day in Des Moines to buy a gun and was told that in Iowa to even buy a gun you have to go to the sheriffs office and get a permit. So I went there, filled out a background check app,and waited to get approved. When I went to get my permit to buy, while I was there I thought what the hell may as well try to get a CC permit too. Cant hurt trying. So while there I went ahead and filled out the app for CC. And I was able to get my Iowa permit from my counties sheriff there after a training class. (The training class for it was a joke). On the sheriffs application I gave the same reason as on my California application- because I carry alot of cash to the bank from our tattoo shop I owned with my wife. I also listed all of my misdemeanor 'offenses'. Which only includes the ones I got in San Fran that night. None of which I went to court for. Never been in any other trouble besides a bunch of speeding and no seat belt tickets. So does that not constitute a 'conviction'? Or did I just slip thru the cracks in the system there?

Since I'm a dual resident of Iowa,Oklahoma and a part time resident of California thats what I have now. Iowa does not share reciprocity with any other states and Oklahoma does so there is no reason for me to even try to get one here since I'm not actually a full time Oklahoma resident. If I had an Oklahoma permit I wouldnt be able to carry while in Iowa living and working anyways. If I do move here permanently, which is unlikely,I dont know about being able to get a permit in Oklahoma, they seem stricter. No idea.

I guess I dont know what conviction means. Does that mean convicted in court? Or is merely paying a ticket a conviction? I'm confused. I have purchased many brand new guns in Oklahoma and have never had any problem with passing the NICS checks.

did you disclose your expunged charges on the CCP forms?

yes I did. Listed all offenses and apx dates
(used 2 pages of that form, since there is only 2 lines a piece). Then included all the paperwork/order for the expungement. got mine in 102 days. Also had to list some particular nasty charges from a felony arrest but decline to prosecute from 1994. It was arrest only, no charge (da declined to file) but it is better to list everything you can remember and move on. The form says arrested or charged I believe. Anyhoo, none of it ever stopped my from making a purchase, but the mis. poss charge is a mandatory exclusion unless you can get it expunged. I could as I had nothing else in that time and it was over 12 years old.

This is straight from the OSBI website under frequently asked questions for CC permit.

Frequently Asked Questions about Conceal Carry Permits

I am not sure what is on my record and I want to include the correct information on my application, should I run a Criminal History Record Search before filling out my application?

The OSBI conducts a background check at the local, state and national levels as part of the application process. It is not necessary for you to run a Criminal History Record search on yourself before filing your application. However, if you are unsure about any arrest/conviction information on your record and feel it would help with accuracy on your application, you are welcome to do so. Please bear in mind that the OSBI is only a repository for the State of Oklahoma. Any arrests or convictions you had in another State will not show on the rap sheet given with an Oklahoma Criminal History Search.
A good rule of thumb would be if you were arrested and fingerprinted, you should include that information on your application.

I just talked to OSBI yesterday. It seems I had a DWI in 94 w/ open container. No conviction, pled no contest and paid $100 fine. I read the form as "problems" in the last 10 years(my misunderstanding). The nice Lady said that was grounds for Denial, but it might be a month or so before I get the letter. This is the only"problem", other than a Few tickets when I was younger. Now, she said I could appeal the denial ,or withdraw the application and file again(with application fees) and be sure to put EVERYTHING on the new app. Any experience , advice?

I understood it was the nondisclosure , I have no problem buying guns they go right through. I have also been cleared through NICS at Altus Air Force Base in the last 6yrs to work on the base( construction work). They are Pretty thorough from my understanding.

I would appeal the denial with the same explanation you gave on the dates listed, and date ranges. I don't think that a DUI would even keep you from a CCL, I may be wrong.

I did forget about any drug convictions earlier, that is a good point.
