My dream gun has always been the 1874 Sharps .50-90, followed by the Winchester 1873 and the Henry 1860. I am going to start looking for one, not a collector item, but one I can actually use at the range and hunting.
Since I have never shot any of these, or had any experience with them whatsoever, other than drooling over them at museums, gun shows, etc., I need advice from anyone who has experiences with these...
I know there are tons of calibers in these as well, unless the only place to get ammo is to load them myself, or fly to another country, I am not concerned with availability of a specific caliber.
All this said to ask:
What are the best (preferred or proven) calibers to go with?
Which make and model?
And how would Marlin stack up against the 3 I mentioned?
