I used to fish a lot at John Redmond Reservoir in Ks when stationed at Ft Leavenworth. Buffalo were pretty common to catch in the tail waters on lures, but its been too long to identify it from that pic. Caught one about 10 lbs, and was going to release it when a guy told me he would take it.

There are people that have rather large flat bottom boats with generators and big lights that shine into the water. They Gig the suckers. I've never seen a sucker out of the water, so I don't know.
