The game warden here picked up this fawn out by Lake Carl Blackwell last week. He thought it was only a week old. It was hanging around one of the cabins at the lake and they watched it for a couple days before he picked it up to see if the doe would show up and she never did. They must have done some very late breeding last season.

Fawns this late are often the years previous fawns that came into esterous in February or later and end up getting bred. Happens more than you would think.

What will the GW do with it?

Most likely raise it himself, or give it to somebody in a rural area who can "raise" it. By that I mean, put it in low fence area feed it until it gets old enough, jumps the fence and wonders off on its own. I know this is what has been done in the past.

They must have. I have had a doe and two fawns still in spots hanging around my back yard for the last few days.

Elkstalker- You are right on target again. Tonight from 6:00 to 6:40pm I watched a 3X4, 2 X 2, 4 X4, 2 does and a speckled butt. The three bucks have stripped their velvet off. The 3 X 4 had bloody antlers. All had winter coats except the fawn. This surprised me that they all had grey coats. The 3 X4 was definately the dominant buck cause he was chasing everyone away from the feeder.
