When I bought my Browning HP back in the early 80’s, it had issues running 115gr FMJ. I sent it to the late great Austin Behlert for him to work his magic on it. Replaced the adjustable sight with a low mount Bomar, replaced the trigger with his trigger and added his extended safety. He took the mag safety out and made it to feed anything.
The Browning HP is classic. Sure, there are “other” carry guns that “may” have a feature (or more) that would make them a “better” carry gun. But that is like comparing how a ‘66 Mustang rides to a new Honda Accord.
I would carry my Browning HP but being a Belgium Browning that was tuned by Behlert, I just don’t want to. Same goes with a Colt 1911 Combat Commander that I have that Behlert also tuned or my 1978 Browning BDA … the first gun I bought when I turned 21. Great guns … “classic” guns … but I don’t want to carry them due to sentimental value.
