Have never really experienced this problem before until last week at the range, but while practicing slide-lock reloads on my M&P9L the baseplates on my magazines are flying off dumping my magazine spring, follower and ammo on the ground.

First time it happened I assumed that it was a fluke and took note of the magazine, but by the third time and it happening on another mag I figured it's either me or some bad magazines. Practiced in my house several time doing mag changes (with empty mags of course) and it continues to do it on 4 different magazines. I've gotten in the habit of inserting the magazine with enough force to throw the slide forward, chambering a round without hitting the slide release (not sure if this is an intentional feature of the M&P series or not). The baseplates on all of them seem very solid and well attached when I try to removed them without depressing the button, so the only thing I can come up with is I'm putting to much forward pressure on the baseplate as I'm slamming it in to the mag well.

I'm trying real hard right now to change my angle of force as I push the magazine straight up instead of the before mentioned forward motion. Because honestly the last thing I want happening at an IDPA match is dumping live ammo all over the ground. :hithead::loser: Just curious if anyone else has had this problem or any other suggestions to correct it??

My wife and I both shoot M&P and I've seen a bunch of them at matches. I've not seen this happen before and I know of at least one other shooter that uses the slide release method you mention.

Ive been shooting the M&P for a couple months now, both the full size and the long slide and had never experienced it. Been to a lot of matches and watched people shoot with them like you said and never seen this happen once. Got a couple new mags on the way thanks to the Nation's Finest rebate from S&W, hope that does the trick.

make sure that the nub of the bottom plate in the magazine goes all the way down and clicks into the hole in the baseplate. all the way, not just a little. you sometimes have to stick a punch in there to get it to fully seat into the baseplate.

I have checked them, they are definitely fully engaged and flush to the baseplate. I've taken the magazines, held them in hand and pushed, pulled, yanked and beat on the base plates to try and make them fail to no avail. Tr only time it happens is during insertion to the gun. I'll give S&W a call tomorrow if I get a chance.

Ditto on the "it ain't ever happened to me". And I've also utilized the "ram it so hard the slide falls" technique. I kind of like that "feature" actually.

One thing that will fix it though is get some Taylor Freelance mag extensions. They won't come off without an allen wrench. Good luck on concealing with them though.

But I really think it's something in your technique, but I don't have a clue as to what.
