I finally decided on getting a RIA this weekend from one of two places centerfire systems or check out the gun show (if its good), here is are my main questions.

What is the difference between the RIA standard and tactical BESIDES the sights, beaver tail, cut out trigger, and ambi saftey???

Are there any internal differences?

I planned on dropping in a new hammer and trigger (just cosmetic) so would the tactical not be worth it then?

To my knowledge, there is no other difference. To me the ambi safety and beavertail would still be worth the difference. I also believe that many 1911 parts sometimes require minor fitting even if they are "drop in". FYI, I am far from a 1911 expert, but I do own both a standard and Tactical RI.

well the difference between the two is $40 and your saying its worth it? I do like the beavertail better i must admit lol. Centerfire Systems has them for $420 shipped +$10 for FFL do you think a gun show would have it cheaper?

And what type of minor fitting do you mean? I only have on3 tool and thats a screw driver (yea seriously), i dont even own a hammer. haha I have no mechanical skills unfortunately to minor fitting could easily be something i couldnt handle.

No differences internally. A majority of people that prefer a higher grip will like a beavertail, that alone is worth the upgrade, not to mention the sights are significantly better. Highly doubtful you'll beat a centerfire systems price at a local show. I'd wager you'll see them for at least $100 more if you find one.

thanks GM you always have some good info for me. There is a Metcalf show this weekend, im not sure how much it cost to get in or the quality of the calf show but if its $6 I think i might go just to make myself feel better when I buy it from centerfire. lol

Yeah there is NO WAY you will get it cheaper at a gunshow. Last one I went to was the big one in tulsa and I seen a rock tactical for $600+. I bought my tactical 9mm from centerfirm. They are nice guns for the money. I feel the finish is their major low point. Its super easy to scratch and marks show up immediately. Other then that its a nice gun. For me I wound go ahead and spend a few extra bucks and get the american classic 1911. Its made at the same place and it's a blued finish. Its in the mid $450 range. Basically the same gun, just a better finish.

There's a 2-Tone on the 2nd page of classified's for $450 and u get 50 rounds. If your in the market, snatch it up good buy for a gun you won't be sorry you got.
