RSV Sucks

Christmas day ended up bringing our 2 month old to OU Children's with respiratory distress and fatigue. ER waiting room was full, almost to standing room only. They triaged him and O2 sat was at 72% so they brought us back immediately, while plenty of people made comments loud enough for us to hear about how they've been waiting for hours and they should get to go back first. Had to bite my tongue.

Admitted a couple hours later, moved to step down unit shortly after since he was still declining, then moved to PICU where they could have him sedated and on a ventilator. That was Wednesday morning and we're still in PICU and likely will be for a couple more days. RSV, bronchiolitis, bronchial hypertension, and pneumonia.

I'm grateful for nurses and doctors and ventilators, but this whole deal seriously sucks. I'm not good at not being in control of things and not at least having some options of how I can fix it.

I know I'm just complaining/venting and should be grateful that with 6 kids this is our first stint in NICU/PICU, and I really am glad about that, just wish he didn't have to go through this.

Man that sucks. I hope the little tyke gets better quickly.
Christmas time is tough from what I hear. Wife's mom is in the Hospital since the day before Christmas and needed an MRI the day after. She didn't get it because the staff said the public won't come in on christmas and wait until the day after. The ER was swamped and turning people away. She got her MRI yesterday.

Vent on Sir!! Dads always want to protect or fix the issues and when you can't, you feel helpless and that SUUUUUUCKS.

I'd say that you were like many of us fathers, in that you would be willing to take the suffering upon yourself instead of the children having to deal with it. Prayers for you and your family, as well as for the medical team.

Most of them sitting around were probably welfare recipients and ER abuse is one of their skills. Dirty dogs have no right to question medical personnel after triaging a small child.

He's been really agitated the past couple hours, enough that they turned up the sedative, finally decided to see how he does without the mask and he seems so much more comfortable...
