I would go to my grandmothers house on weekends and take care of her I would buy her groceries and keep the house all fixed up and clean all her dishes.
My sisters and mother would go to church.
Never lifting a finger for my grandmother she was their grandmother also.

I installed a new garage door for her for a Christmas present. I could not get any of the family to go to her house and help.
They said they were going to church..I said I can do it any day..They still had excuses.

I asked them what would the Lord want you to do ??? Go to church and sit and hear the same stuff you have heard for 3 decades or go help someone an elderly someone that can't help herself??

I told them I do not need you to help with the door..Just bring some food for her, I told them I was making fried chicken and BBQ beans and potato salad and some greens.

They still never showed.
I did a mothers day flower garden and more home cooked food for my grandmother..The family I did get over there and in the end
I got bitched at because I would not pay my family for the flowers they bought to stick into the garden.

I never said I would pay for them.
I got a really bad taste in my mouth for 90% of church goers.
I have been burned the worst by them.

When they quit gathering by the river I quit going.

I can see the OP point on the preacher boy I have been burned by 3 of them all mightier than though preachers.

Go help an elderly person.
Or a child or just some person down on their luck.

I am a “church-goer” too, aka a Christian, I hate to hear how you feel about 90% of us. I would think it would be just opposite and there was about 10% that could fall into that category. My entire family are Christians, we are far from perfect, but we would not hesitate to help others when possible. I think Jesus would even agree with you that there are times to be doing for others that my even cause you to miss a church service or two.

As far as church services right now during this pandemic (back to the OP) there are things I don’t agree with either, I am very concerned about the older members of the congregation that feel the obligation to be back in the building to worship. I feel masks should be worn just out of concern for them if nothing else. That said, my family chose to stay home this week (first week the doors re-opened) and we watched the live stream online. We all have to choose our own path and I believe there is many strong of opinions on both sides of the situation to ever let things get heated, especially with my pastor.
...I will continue to encourage my parents to stay at home and continue to worship God!

Pastors are no different than policeman.....95% are awesome people but there are that 5% that use the platform for themselves, their greed, their power.....A good preacher would have listened then disagreed but not turn it into an ongoing issue. But remember they are people just like the rest of us and have flaws, a lot of people try to hold them to a higher standard and shouldn't.

I have a rare respiratory challenge only 1 in 100000 have. I’m missing the protein in my DNA that activates my system to send white blood cells to my pulmonary system when I need it. I’ve had pneumonia 3 times in 18 months befor the virus struck. At my age it would kill me without a doubt. I’d say 75% of our church is 60s 70s and 80s. Also there is no treatment for my condition. Likely had it my entire life. Pneumonia several times as a kid growing up. Never smoked a day in my life

Look al I’m saying is we have a leader that made no effort what so ever to accommodate the elderly. Rather he an a few elders basically turned up their noses to the elderly, the governor and said here is what we are going to do. Now he and some of the staff may be fighting the virus. What are the chances the l
Lord may be saying wake up you have a very gray church and you have not met their needs

Being a preacher is a solemn responsibility and he is held at a much higher standard than the layperson. Moreover, a preacher-being a Christian-is as all Christians not to think of themselves as better than another person. He is to be the husband of one wife and is to control his family and set the standard for the congregation to follow. It is all written in Timothy as well as other Biblical scriptures. The preacher will be judged far more stringently than one than is not a minister. Have you tried praying for this.....preacher? I have a lot of thoughts on this situation based on my experience with "ministers of the Gospel."
