Gas Hot Water heater blew a couple of day ago and thank God my wife was home. Tank was leaking even with the water turned off and could not drain because of the silt and crap that had accumulated at the bottom. To the people that are going to say, "you should flush it every year" screw that. I get 10 years out of my heaters and that's fine and I'm just not going to do it. Couldn't drain with hose even with taking the tap top off and running wire through. Wife caught me because I was planning to try and move it myself. Tight squeeze that required removing the door frame and removing fresh air intake (I do that because of a CO thing a few years ago that almost killed the wife). Still, count up the weight of 40 gal of water and a gas tank and no room to edged it out. Also don't forget a wife that watches me like a hawk. Got ahold of a great plumber that was local Matt Grant (use him because he's good and he's honest). He did the work yesterday and I wish I had done this 10 years ago but it is what it is. Because our water hasn't been turned off at the meter since Davy Crocket, the city meter was spewing water like a water park. It was after 5 so I had to call the water dept and the guy on duty worked his butt off for about 3 hours fixing the leak. I told him that since it was the meter, my water bill will be calculated on the bill of 3 months ago as will the next one if up. They will of course. That man I've known since he was a boy and he is a real working man now. Our city water employees are outstanding. I'm not sure who is going to replace them when they retire. I think this younger generation won't go for that kind of had work (and it was extremely hard...we have hard pan soil). He stayed with it till it was done any I'm so happy. I needed a 110 electric line for the exciter so I called a local electrician and low and behold, one of his employees is the son of one of my best friends. His name is Cooey Potts (yes that's what we call him and always will). He's journeyman electrician and DARN GOOD at it. Also, another honest person. I ran a short extension to run the wh for now. I could do the work because it's just tapping into a plug in a bedroom plug almost directly across from where the plug is. I could do it myself but I want him. He's a new father and will have a great career as we can't find an electrician because they are so busy. Since it's him, I'm going to have him do a couple of other things like putting in a subpanel, upgrading my breaker box and removing an unneeded 220 line that I should have never put in and a waste of amp/breaker space.
I'm blessed for some reason. I was able to get a great plumber to come off a job and do ours as well as an electrician that, by luck only, could come by and set me for work next week. This just don't happen but thank you Lord.
I love this tankless gas heater. Here's a pic as well as the old one I have to figure out what to do with. Back when I was a kid, I'd grab these in a hot minute and cut them in half (tank) and make hog trough's out of them. We used them for our hogs (and I still love hogs. We raised them because we needed the food but they're darn cool animals that have gotten a bad rep) and sell the rest. Not anymore. So I've got to haul it off today.
How about this..... Used water heater for sale for 1 grand or free if you pick it up. Might work.
