I work at one of the 'big box hardware' stores. We just had inventory --- wanna guess what we lost this previous year? Almost $1.5 million, just in one store! And, that's with way more stuff locked up than last year.

The laws are on the books to deal with this. It's just that the system refuses to do much about it.
There is the problem... Everyone gets pissed at the byproduct of city, state and federal government that do not do their jobs.
What else are these companies supposed to do but lock crap up and check receipts . They have to try and curb the thieves.

Was at Lowe's McAlester today with a shopping cart and flat cart loaded up. We get to the front and only self checkout are open. I guess they don't have checkers anymore.

I don't know if they had anyone down at the lumber end or if it was self checkout there too. There was one employee standing watching the 4 checkouts.

On another note , they have all the Romex wire locked up . They had some up above the cage doors on top shelf. Unattended ladder platform right in the same aisle.

So I push it over to the wiring and help myself to the top shelf. Was a lot easier than trying to find someone with the key.
I've always thought if we check ourselves out we should get a nice little discount.

No matter the store name when they only have one live cashier and several people in the line trying to force people into using the self checkouts I'm the "Richard" (in their eyes) that walks up to the Customer Svc. counter, where there's always three or more employees standing around that are just shooting the bull with their thumbs up their a$$es and asks / demands in a not so polite voice to see the mgr. to get another line opened up......I get the look and attitude but a new cash register is always opened.

I am old enough to remember full-service and self-service at the gas station, heck I even worked at an Amoco that offered both. But remember, when that transition was coming through, self-service was at a discounted price.
