Yeah...that's what I heard, too.

And I love my Mini-14s...
You guys can fanboy all you want, does not change the fact that a lot of guys that used the early models of the M-16 hated them with a passion. You are right about one thing though, I should have said chrome lined barrels and chambers, not just barrels. Rust in the barrels was an issue in Vietnam before the chrome lining.
Also can you azzholes can knock off jokes about Ken please. He was a friend and did not deserve to die. It saddens me that I can not find anything about his death. Nothing we were doing was classified so that is not the reason. I can not understand it.

So a lot of guys hated them in the Viet Nam era. BFD... That was the late 60s and it ain't the same gun. It's probably time for you to update your thinking. Though I know that's incredibly hard for a lot of people. Especially when most of what you've believed has been basically a bunch of hogwash.

You are forgetting that I am a Vietnam era vet. While I personally did not serve in Nam (thank God) I knew a lot of men who did. I was in the service when S Vietnam fell and served with men who did fight in Vietnam. I even still have my National Defense medal to prove it. (Big woop)

As far as updating my thinking, I am in my mid-60s, on O2 and with screwed up ribs and diaphragm. I seriously doubt I will ever need to carry a rifle into combat so for home defense and plinking my Mini 14 is plenty good. Why should I update anything? I have no fantasies of running into combat or other tacticool BS so I have no need for the latest cool gadgets or the newest version of Mattel's Mistake.
