Dated? Yes. Obsolete? Not even close.

Not everything needs to be some sort of a latest and greatest, modern technology, wonder gun... I'd take a Mini-14 over lots of "new and improved" guns these days.

This is like the third or fourth time someone's started a thread over this...or a similar...video asking the same question.

I think this thread/question is obsolete.

Not any more than any other 70s-80s era rifle.

Is the AR-18, AR-70, CAL, M-16A1, HK33, hell even the original AUG, etc... obsolete?

Back when the only two real options for a .223 semi-auto were either a Colt AR or a Mini 14 they were a good way to get into that type of rifle at a low cost. Now that AR15's are a dime a dozen, the Mini at its current price just don't make any sense. Magazine and accessory options are limited compared to the AR.

I had one in the late 80's and it was cool and it's good if you just like that type of gun better, but it's not worth the cost of owning one to me.

Ruger just announced a folding stock version btw.
