El Charrito was the place that sticks out as my earliest recollection of Mexican food as a kid. This was before they sold out to El Chico.
This thread inspired me to get tacos for a late lunch today.

My earliest recollection is El Burrito. A little tiny place here in town. I always got the chili cheese beef burrito, with rice and beans of course.
That was way before all the fast food joints showed up here. I sure hated to see it close down.
They had the most unique house sauce that was simple but so good. I can get real close to the original after some experimenting in my kitchen.
I want to say that El Charrito was from the 40s, maybe the first Mexican food place in OKC.

There was an El Charrito across from the old Mapco building in Tulsa.
Went there back in the 60's.
I remember it being really good.
Hot, soft corn tortillas.
