Well chit, The wife and I are heading to Gatlinburg, TN in two weeks. I guess I need to start planning a alternate route now. 
We don't spend enough on infrastructure maintenance and proactive replacement. Voters don't vote for candidates who promise to maintain things...they want new things.

Heck while its closed, maybe they can finally finish the construction in West Memphis that's been going on for the last decade or more.
I don’t think the estimated time has much to do with welding up the broken support. The time will be the inspection of the bridge itself. What stresses caused this support to break? The overall integrity of the bridge is going to be confirmed before traffic is allowed to cross the bridge again.
