Very nice pics!! (I am waiting patiently for the "poor rabbit" posts ... :rolleyes2)
And welcome to OSA!!

If we have to worry about the poor rabbit people here we are all in a lot of trouble!

We also double team them!

seriously though I have noticed a drop in the hawk population in the area possibly due to rabbit and quail decline

This is a very good observation, although not a hand in hand problem.
Hawks diet are made up 95% by rodent and snake, a sick rabbit or quail, pheasant for that matter will not be passed up but they mostly seek out rats and mice. If something is happening to the food supply the hawks die first.

Of course they will eat anything they happen to be able to catch!

Hey Michael, glad to see you here. I will try to post some info here about two upcoming falconry events in the Woodward area. One is actually a farm show that we will be setting up at to try to show the locals what falconry is all about. We are doing this in preperation for the NAFA field meet. If anyone here is interested in going out and seeing falconry first hand, this is a great opportunity to do it. For more info on the North American Falconers Association's annual field meet visit http://www.oklahomafalconry.com/NAFA2009/tabid/77/Default.aspxhttp://www.oklahomafalconry.com/NAFA2009/tabid/77/Default.aspx

Dont hesitate to take Michael up on his offer, he is a great guy with great birds, you wont be dissapointed!

All the best,
Chris Kimble

The non native vegetation is the main problem. The prarie chicken are long gone and the quail/rabbit are getting thin.I recently saw a redtail catch a 6`bull snake and fly away it was awesome

Wow micheal, beautiful pics. I work as an airfield manager at tinker afb and while attending the BASH conference last year, learned a little bit about the falconry program in place at several airports. Unfortunatley did not get to see them in action. Very interesting!! Oh and I grew up in West Monroe, LA!
