I'm pretty happy with how it turned out... Even though it's not done. It still has that factory curve to it, I think I might heat it up and bend it straight. Here is another pic
It's like 1 1/8" x 1 3/4". Just the knob itself... hehehe. I'm gonna turn it down to about 1" x 1 1/2" or 1 1/4" I think. That'll be about right. Lighter too... It weighs about 8 or 10 ounces. And I drilled a 3/4" hole about 3/4" Into it... lol too heavy
I turned a knob the other day and welded it on... Here are some pics. I made it ridiculous big... kinda as a joke. lol
I think I am going to turn it down a bit, make the groves deeper and hollow it out a bit more. Also going to have my buddy bead blast it. Then I'll blacken it and the bolt...
It's hard to tell a difference on the paint by looking at a distance... you can tell a huge difference in the texture by hand. The barrel is a lot harder to tell, they look a lot shinier. I used gun scrubber to remove the oil on the barrel so it was easier to tell.
I'm not absolutely...
Definitely not, I haven't seen any bad tolerances on those models. I've just seen a big quality fit on the fit on the SP2022 in the last few months. Right when we started to get the american made ones.
The past ones were Nitrided barrels and anodized lowers... which is a ton better. Mainly the nitride, it makes the surface of the barrel inside and out 70 rockwell, which equals really really good barrel life vs. bluing and chrome lining. Plus it is generally more accurate than chrome lining.
They need to get their QC under dang control. You should see the play in the SP2022 slides that I've seen... Like 1/8" either direction at the muzzle. It's rare to get a tight one now... stupid Ron Cohen... destroying another company.
If there is anyone looking for a SIG 556 classic or Patrol Swat... I saw that academy has either for $1199... the classic dropped $700 bucks...
might want to get on that before quality really starts to plummet into the depths.
May still be a few good ones left. Watch out for painted...
The best way to determine where to drill is dremel in the detent where you want it. Then clean as much carbon off the outside of the valve as you can. Then place the rifle on that middle setting or wherever the detent is and fire about 5 or 6 rounds. It will fire in single shot.
The firing...
Nope... some people place a piece of velcro outside the ejection port. I kinda like the scar the brass leaves on the side really. Just hated how it dented brass.
Uuuuum... I could... but I would suggest doing it yourself... I wouldn't want to be liable for breaking a part that super hard to find... All you need to do it is a dremel, drill and a $9.99 set of little tiny drill bits. (amazon.com)
As for the cases they were really tough to get in & out of...
Sig sent me an email today. The 516 uppers are now available in 10" or 16" barrels. Right now they're $948 with free shipping. I guess retail is gonna be $1285.
I opened up a new Patrol Swat yesterday and... They're making some changes... The lower is now PAINTED instead of anodized...(Bad)...
I love my 4sevens 123 tactical. Its really bright, I love the moonlight mode. I'm gonna buy the new Maelstrom G5 for my 556. 375 lumens with a 4 mode bezel. :) oh yeah...
So I've been working on adding settings and tuning my Sig patrol swat and wanted to let the other 556 owners know the results of the port size testing.
I've ground in 6 total settings to the gas block. The original port into the piston was around .40 with a .42 or something out port. Which...
