There are plenty of YouTube videos that cover the disassembly and reassembly process. I've never touched a Series 80 pistol, but a Series 70 or pre-Series 70 gun just takes a couple minutes to fully disassemble. Sometimes finding the sweet spot when depressing the mag catch to turn the screw is the most difficult part.
Having a cheap Wheeler bench block makes removing and reinstalling the MSH pins and the hammer spring / plunger/ cap assembly much easier.
I"ve done it plenty of times. You can do it just take your time and go step by step. Kimbers and Smiths with the swartz is even different from the series 80 so know what you have before you start.
Of my four current 1911's only one is a series 80 and from reading a couple of the above posts it sounds like that they are a bit more problematic to tear completely down and reassemble. --------->Websters dictionary definition for problematic = pain in the butt.

The 1911 is a simple pistol to completely disassemble and reassemble. @coolhandluke brings up a good thing to have, the block...but I just use an old roll of electrical tape in its place. It works, but a block is more cooler. Another good thing to have is a magnetic parts tray. I can't even begin to tell you about all the tiny springs and pins and stuff I have tread that other people lose all the time and how they crawl around on the floor digging around in carpet, looking at every nook and cranny and sometimes...days or weeks later, there it is! I usually just lay my small parts out on a white hand towel so they don't tend to roll off the table or get swept off onto the floor, but when I am not in a hurry, or not feeling too lazy, I'll get the magnetic tray I brought at Walmart, in the auto section for $5 bucks. My magnetic tray is about the size of a cereal bowl, or my dog's dish. Hey! I wonder if his dog tags would get stuck to the dish if I used it for his dinner? I got a real weird dog, he'd probably freak out if his dog tags were to stick on his "food" dish.

Block? Feh. Don't even need any steenkin' tools to disassemble a real 1911 (assuming you haven't replaced JMB's slotted grip screws with fancy-pants screws), just other parts of the pistola itself. I've even done it with a Series 80 (Delta Elite).
