Surprising that no one has mentioned S&W's 1911. I've got a stainless target model bought new in 2005 or 2006 (I forget) and it is the only 1911 I've owned (or been responsible for) in the past 35 years that always goes bang, has never ever experienced a FTF, FTE or stove piped and is the most accurate semi-auto pistol I own among many. None of the 1911's issued to me in the Army were even close to being as accurate (though they were all just as reliable). The Kimber Ultra Tac II I own was a total piece of crap for the 1st 300 rounds (what kind of gun requires a 200 round break in but that's what the Kimber guy in customer service told me when I called them after the 1st 100 - give it a chance - put 2 or 3 hundred rounds thru it and then call us back) and still occasionally hiccups with an FTE even after 2000+ rounds thru it (and is a pain to take down and put back together). The range of options from S&W is broad and their lower end model 1911's are reasonably priced. Take a look at one. Well worth the time.
