Well my buddy finally got the bugs worked out on his 1977 TA.
I ported the heads for him. Edelbrock aluminum #5089 heads.
I tuned a Quadrajet for it and set up his distributor.

It has a 355" chevy with pistons being flat tops and .005" above the deck with .039" head gasket.
I had Willhoite cams grind the flat tappet cam for it a 230@ .050 and .480" lift on a 110 LSA.

My buddy never had a quick car.
He has had some V6 dodge challenger and i would bet that was the quickest he ever had.
He has driven some of my vehicles but never really had a full throttle pass.

He is 50+ years old and bought this TA when he was 15.

He took it out yesterday for some shake down runs and called me and told me he never had a car scare him before.
Said just a little throttle input and it wants to blow the tires off and go sideways.

3.42 gears with posi and BF goodrich Radial TA 255-60-15. He has always ran those TA radials. I have told him for decades they are hard compound and do not stick.

Trans is a built TH350 with 3000 stall TCI converter.

He needed to drop it off to get it painted and I followed him in the 1957 4 door.
Yea we raced.
Dead stop waiting on the light to change I hear him rev it up a bit maybe 2500 rpm and thought he is going to go up in smoke.
I then thought he has that MSD 6AL ignition and I bet he still has the 6000 rpm chip in it.

We take off and I instantly get out in front and see in my rear view mirror the back of the car covered in white smoke and white smoke rolling out of the wheel wells.

HA!
He starts gaining on me but still spinning and rolling smoke and then I hear it that ba ba ba ba ba ba and he shifts it into second but it is too late I am too far out in front and time to shut down.

We get to the paint shop and he is stoked.
Said THAT WAS AWESOME!
He said he never been pushed back in the seat like that in his own car.
We checked the chip in the msd box and sure enough 6000 RPM chip.

He said it really started pulling hard and then the chip came in and it nose over bad.

I said Yea that engine should like a shift closer to 7000 rpm.
I had him hold his hand out and it was shaking from adrenaline.

HA! He had a good time.
I have know him since the late 80's and he is a cancer survivor but not in the greatest condition and he needed this.

He thought he would beat the 57 I told him if you hooked and had the right chip you will beat the 57.

He is planning on selling his car and I told him we need to go to Thunder valley and race it before he sells it.
He agreed.

So until next time keep your tires stuck to the pavement :)
