Congrats okieshooter and retrieverman, awesome trophies! And dorkus’ brother- helluva deer. This is about as far as my deer pics/chat/excuses extend so far this year. This is the latest I’ve ever started setting up cams and feeders, but this weekend the four in my household went out and got a feeder and several cameras set up. And “excavated” a lot of “diamonds”, “shark teeth”, and “t-Rex bones” at the salt plains digging area. Hunt prep is a little different proposition with 2 young kids and a wife involved, but we had a good time. First time I’ve been out there since turkey season and it was good to just step on the ground. The rains this year really helped establish the visual fence around our place and get the native grass growing in the pastures. Deer are actually bedding on my place now. Last year with no cows helped some, but no cows and more rain really made a difference this year. Its starting to look wild and unkept and I love it. It feels good to see what feels like exponential changes this year, even though there is still so much more that “needs” done. Saw a ton of deer- few bucks, none mature. and my dwindling flock of turkeys. The farmer that leases the ag ground has thus far failed to plant the wheat he was supposed to on a couple fields, so that’s a bit of a bummer. But I’ve got a place to hunt and people I love to hunt with. All is well.
