I used Water Dog on my first lab, no issues, worked great and couldn't have asked for more out of my lab. Attempted to use it on my second lab, and it wasn't long before I realized it wasn't going to work. Either my first lab had an extremely high IQ and the second one didn't or a combo of both lol. Turned out to be a combo of both. I ended up taking him to a friend who does it on the side. He said himself that the lab was a challenge, but eventually came around and he's been a good one also.

@dbradshaw I've hunted geese with John Amico 3-4 times of Deep Fork Retrievers out of Choctaw, Ok. and from what I understand he's a well respected trainer....you might contact him.

Does anyone have recommendations on waterfowl dog training in Oklahoma? Trainer, books, videos, etc. I will be getting a puppy this Christmas and would really like to train him to retrieve waterfowl. I have read some horror stories regarding dogs coming back from trainers cowering and that is not something I am looking for. I would like to either do it myself or find someone trustworthy.
You might look into Bill Hillman. He puts a lot of information on youtube.

I don’t know who the mental invalids were that decided to put the waterfowl break over Thanksgiving week, but I’d like to kick them in the sweets. What a terrible idea.
Some guys went anyway in Alfalfa county, sounded pretty expensive according to the article lol. Out of state hunters iirc.

Got a linky? I have a young friend that I’ve mentored into the hunting world. He’s shot a couple nice deer so far. He began hunting ducks with a friend of his. I found out he hunted public land YESTERDAY and have told him to pay closer attention to the regs.
I’d like him to read the article.

From FB
Alfalfa County:

Six suspects were cited in for numerous waterfowl violations this morning, Oct 30.

Charges pending are: exceeding the bag limit of ducks, hunting waterfowl before legal hours, hunting without a duck stamp, hunting migratory birds without a HIP permit and wanton waste.

State Park Ranger Ryan Webster assisted Wardens Ben Bickerstaff (Alfalfa County) and Marshall Reigh (Grant County) with the investigation.

The suspects shot 10 minutes before legal time and left the excess birds over their legal limit to rot in the weeds.
