Interesting 264 story, in late 50's an old family friend had a new Mod 70 westerner in 264 mag
Ammo was scare so he used 6.5mm copper ground rod to make projectiles on his bench top tool and die lathe. Salvaged powder from pulled Swedish mauser rounds. Vaporizing coyotes into a fur cloud at 600yds got his picture in the local paper in 1958 with 5 dead coyotes all taken past 500yds, kind of a big deal back then
With the 6.5 craze its interesting that the 264 Win Mag didn't get the boost as others did. The Winchester Westerner concept is interesting especially with the introduction of the 338 Win Mag and the 458 Win Mag. I am fairly certain the 7mm Rem Mag kinda took the wind out of the 264 Win Mag in the early 60's.
Looks like you're way across the state, but Elk City Atwoods had a small stack of that ammo a while back. They said it got sent to them and they couldn't get rid of it; I told them that catridge is not one a lot of people shoot.
I saw some at Atwoods in Owasso for $80/box for Remington Corlokt. I been buying HSM 264 Win Mag for around $55/box but thats not shipping included. Most of my Atwoods have a bunch of 280 Remington they cannot get rid of.
SGAmmo.com (in Stillwell) has 264 WinMag; they are currently the cheapest online sellers of that cartridge on AmmoSeek that don't charge excessive shipping fees. I've given them a bunch of business in the last three years and am always pleased with their packaging and shipping speed.
Thank you for the info! I will check them out. Its a long time since i used SG ammo. Last time I think I bought anything from them was when they had a bunch of Russian Tulsa AK mags.
Just load some up if you already have the brass. Dies aren't hard to come by. There are a crazy amount of 6.5mm projectiles to choose from. If you were closer, I'd loan you my dies.
