Joe Rogan endorsed Trump tonight.
He also didn’t say anything about handguns or scatterguns, so you can’t really infer anything about his state of readiness from his statement. With young kids in the house, it’s entirely possible that he has a ready handgun, but the rifles are kept secured, and he just broke them out because of the perceived threat.
Don’t read too much into it.

I haven't read anymore into it than you have. I just find his wording interesting.
I would have emphasized that my family was secured and that I was amply armed and prepared to protect them, as every American should be.
