I have a Rock River 1903A4 clone, my understanding is that most any factory 30-06 load is safe in the 03. The only thing I would mention is to make sure it isn't a low seriel number gun, but since you said 03a3 that should not be an issue. I reload for mine, but have used factory ammo with no issues.

If you're a member of the CMP, their deal on milsurp HXP 30-06 is probably the best around for plinker-quality, brass-cased, boxer-primed ammo. Otherwise, check the online ammo price checkers like ammoseek.com

Beware on the HXP if you are planning to run it through your 03A3. Greek HXP is known for running a little on the long side and 03A3 chambers tend to run on the short side. It's a fairly common complaint that HXP won't chamber in some A3's.

Interesting! Fortunately I haven't had this issue in either of two 03A3's or an 03A4.

HXP chambers fine in my 03A3 as well. I have just seen several threads on the CMP forum relating to this issue solely in 03A3's. Some guys have even reamed their chambers so that they could shoot the cheaper HXP ammo. The longer case on the HXP isn't an issue in the Garand action as it's violent enough to slam form the case when chambering.

I would like to get my hands on 2 pieces of this loaded ammo to do some measuring.
You say the case is longer?

A quick search on the CMP forums will show you otherwise (see threads below)...the HXP case tends to run long at the shoulder and is known for not chambering in some '03 actions. This may be an issue only associated with certain production lots, but nothing has been proven.

I seen them advertised for about 140 for the 192 round..
Whatever you and him are happy with is what is fair.

Looks like the HXP is long in the shoulder..like to maf length and that would not chamber well in some guns that are set at less that max..Read the links that coolhandluke posted and came up with a possible .007" jam against the shoulder.

Even .001" is not a good feeling.
