There were some factory options. My dad has a 60-4 that was ordered from the factory by him. He used to be an ffl. Here is a pic from the S &W forum

Thanks @dlbleak, didn’t know that was a factory option. Now I want one. I like how porting changed the recoil pulse to a more straight back on my 608.

That one is a little older than the one I'm getting. Notice how the S&W logo is on the sideplate? Which means 70's. In the 80's, they started putting the logo on the left, just below the cylinder release.
