she's purty!Well, I got Goldilocks together this weekend and shot it. I haven't shot it for accuracy yet (still mulling over which scope to use), but did fire a few boxes of ammo through it to check for function. Works great, zero malfunctions. I probably shouldn't have let my wife shoot it though, she is trying to stake her claim on it now.
I wanted a good "all around" rifle and I'm pretty happy with the results. It's built from a Colt Competition rifle that has been cerakoted Burnt Bronze. The barrel is Faxon - Button rifled, hybrid 5R 1:8 rifling, "bull" chamber, black nitrided (bolt and barrel matching type 2 from 6.5 Grendel forum group buy). The handguard is Parallax Tactical Super slim, lightweight M-Lok, also cerakoted Burnt Bronze. Trigger is a blue drop-in unit.
Now I need optics. View attachment 121394
Huh.
All mine have either a can or just a thread protector on them. You cant go wrong with a vortex scope.
I have a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8 x 24 with cantilever mount on a DDMV4 AR and love it. I would like something similar to put on the Grendel, but with more power.
No personal experience with them, but Vortex now offers two higher magnification scopes in the Strike Eagle line; a 3-18x and a 4-24x.
3-18x is $449 at OpticsPlanet
Thanks! I had every intention of going to Pryor today to visit my mother and drop by your store, but I had other things come up. Maybe tomorrow.
Doc’s Gun Store in Pryor. You have a store JJ? Gonna need to come visit!
I too have a Grendel, LaRue flavor and she shoots good, .4XX MOA good with ELD. I bagged my first deer with it last year, 125ish yard shot using SST-- DRT... Entered, lung and heart shot, never exited. The damage to the entry wound was not significant, the internals were mush, and no damage to the other side.
IMO, the Grendel is a good solid round. I don't have the problems that everyone else talks about with it being over gassed, extractor issues, etc. Mine runs like a champ and as good as any other AR platform I own.
We can sit here and argue about anything and everything, but at the end of the day, if it does what you want it to and you like it, that's all that matters.
