Updated: Gunshot detection technology known as ShotSpotter has been used as evidence in 190 court cases even as some critics raise questions about the technology.

The article points to a Chicago case in which prosecutors withdrew ShotSpotter evidence after public defenders claimed in a motion that ShotSpotter analysts overrode the results.

According to the assistant Cook County public defenders, Lisa Boughton and Brendan Max, a ShotSpotter analyst reclassified a sound deemed to be fireworks to conclude that it was a gunshot. Another analyst changed the location coordinates from 5700 South Lake Shore Drive to a location a mile away on South Stony Island Drive, their motion says.

“Right now, nobody outside of ShotSpotter has ever been able to look under the hood and audit this technology,” Manes told Vice’s Motherboard.

ShotSpotter has claimed accuracy ranging from 80% to 97%. ShotSpotters’ own employee, Paul Greene, told a San Francisco court in 2017 that its accuracy guarantee “was put together by our sales and marketing department, not our engineers.”

Hmmm, humans changing data to fit the police's investigation. Never happen?

The FBI already did. There are over a million justifiable uses of firearms a year. Heck. May have been 2 million. Either way it far out weighs to 35,000 gun deaths a year. There is no way I can find where I saw that though. Was from a year or two back

IIRC, aren’t those the stats that the pro 2nd Amendment defender & author, John Lott, quotes numerous times when defeating leftist anti-gun rhetoric/propaganda/dogma?

The term "gun violence" is a complete and utter misnomer. There is no such thing as gun violence. It is just violence and should be accorded no more or no less attention than violence committed with any other tool or means. And, self defense is not violence. Self defense is an act to prevent or put a stop to an ongoing act of violence.

If the left or any other movement wishes to disarm the people, let them follow the required procedure in Article V in the Constitution. George Washington said it best during his farewell address:

"The basis of our political systems is the right of the people to make and to alter their
constitutions of government. But the Constitution which at any time exists, 'till changed
by an explicit and authentic act of the whole of the People, is sacredly obligatory upon all."

If they meet with failure using the procedures in Article V, they'll have to take up arms if they want ours. It'll be 1776 all over again. We the People do not like dictators, tyrants, and despots and will not succumb to any rule other than the Constitution of the United States of America.

Don’t recall. I believe it was linked with the FBI stats and probably only came out because Trump was in office.
