I found a used 642 on the cheap. It checks out ok mechanically but it has some oxidation issues nothing too deep. So my question is what should I coat it with. I have never done an aluminum framed revolver before so I thought I would ask you guys if there is something to look out for. Duracoat, Gunkote or Cerakote? I all ready have the colors picked out OD frame and black cylinder. I will try to post some picks of it but I am still kinda new. So any input would be great.
Thanks

Cerakote is an oven-cure, and (IME) bake-ons are much more durable, with limited coating. Dura is fine; I tend to run a bit heavy on the hardener for more wear resistence.

...so, if you can bake it without creating domestic furor, I would Cera/teflon/moly, if not go Dura/Gunkote.

Shoot it and carry it,who cares what it looks like.I love it like it is.My 340PD has the black coating worn off the cylinder lock side where my perspiration has eroded it,it won't rust,it's Scandium. Steve
