Not sure if this is the right place for this, but here goes it...

This is a very interesting thread I ran across that involves Bill Akins, the inventor of the infamous accelerator bulldogging some workshop tinkerers. I can see his point, but some intellectuals lack any knowledge of tact. If you are like me, you won't help but have to read all nine pages.

Akins sounds like a douche. Obviously he got screwed but the the way he defended himself repeating himself over and over with those long posts was so tiresome. I thought of a couple of things as I was reading that thread. First off, his patent states that that action has to cycle forward and backward a predetermined distance. Well, what if you designed a stock that let it travel a non predetermined distance? Patent infringement averted. Second off, he kept saying that if similar designs or thoughts had been in the public domain that he would have never been issued a patent. Well, I don't know if they were or not but the patent office issues patents every single day that should be invalid for that exact reason. At this point it's moot, but had it been allowed and taken off as a business, I guarantee there would have been enough evidence of public domain to invalidate his patent. Now nobody even cares. I mean, why would anyone spend $20,000 trying to invalidate a patent for a product you can't market?

I never thought of it like this. He is "red flagging" all of these people who are constucting products deemed illegal by ATF and his reasoning is that he is protecting his intellectual property from future market infringement. Doesn't make sense to me. I think he is just a burnt resentful wash-up. Two days ago I felt sorry for the SOB, now I hope the ATF reverses their ruling (or dissolves!) the day his patent expires. How do you think he ended up financially? Loaded or broke?
