I remember when the Rice Owls Marching Band formed a fire hydrant on the field at College Station. It was a big deal. Them A&M Dawgs took it as a real insult. That was a long time ago. That was before the whole marching band thing got REAL.

Yeah, commemorating the Russian revolution, hammers and sickles, unions, etc. is just doing a little bit of learning and celebrating a little diversity in the Pennsylvania high school. That is something like what Mike Golash, former Amalgamated Transit Union local 689 president said a while back.

Golash and his comrade buds, “trying to learn something from the historical revolutions of the past: the Russian revolution, the Chinese revolution, the revolutions in Cuba and Eastern Europe.”
Golash, “What can we learn from them so we can build a more successful movement to transform capitalist society?”
Golash, “An organization has to be built which can bring down capitalism.”

No biggie. Saw a football game a few weeks ago with Claremore, and thier fans had a banner declaring themselves as "The Red Army", complete with hammer & sickle. I thought it was pretty damned cool myself, and I was rooting for the opposing team!

I remember years ago at a marching competition my school was in there was a school that, no sh1t, performed the crucifixtion and resurrection of christ. More than a few people there were offended. I thought it was hilarious because I knew there was no way they would win after that.

Well, our zebras are red and white. Our uniforms always looked like they said OZ on the back not CZ. Former band nerd here.
