I saw one with really pretty blonde wood last week that I would have liked, but they were asking $200 for it. Yeah right!

make your own with pretty blonde wood. buy a regular 91/30 or just a spare stock, and scrape the cosmoline off it so you do not go thru a ton of sand paper, and sand the thing down until its practically white, dry it, stain or oil as you want, and clear coat if you want too.

i did not take the time to let mine dry more than a day and it was not in the sun ever, but i just put a few coats of linseed oil on it. was a very enjoyable experience. i probably should have let it dry a little more, but i am not certain mine would or would not have done this anyway, but my hand-guards seep when it get hot from 50-80 rounds

If you're looking at refinishing the stock, but aren't a fan of the blonde look, try applying an aged oil finish. This technique works great on birch which is known for it's irregularities in taking on oil and stain. The best part about the aged oil finish is that you can have a great feeling new finish while retaining that military C&R look (just don't sand the stock to death). IMO it's a much better finish than the sloppy shellac jobs on most refurbed Mosin's that tend to scratch and peel easily.

Here is a photo of my repro PU sniper with an aged oil finish applied. If this looks like something you'd be interested in doing, drop me a pm and I'll send you a couple how to links.
