If you already have an AR, just get a CMMG .22 conversion kit to see if he likes it. Cheaper than the rifle itself.

I have a couple of those conversions, they are ok just not accurate. Bullets being smaller than the bore they tend to keyhole

I’ve got one I might let go. My daughter used to shoot it but she has taken over one of my .223 now. It has a Leupold 3-9 scope in a Leupold mount.
